What students can expect in lessons:
Voice students will receive individualized 30 min instruction designed to build a healthy vocal foundation. Lessons will include proper breathing and posture, vocal technique, confidence building, and musical expression. Students will work on repertoire suited to their age and skill level, helping them grow as confident performers both on and off the stage! For the Spring Semester students will be working with both Merrill and Hannah.
About Merrill (4/11 & 4/18)
Merrill Mitchell is a voice teacher, performer, and multi-instrumentalist whose career bridges the worlds of classical music and theater. She holds a double major in Vocal Performance and Musical Theater with a minor in Modern Languages from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and studied opera abroad at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria through a competitive scholarship awarded for musical excellence. Her performance experience spans operatic and theatrical productions in the United States and Europe, including a recent Off-Broadway credit in Michael Levin’s new original musical, Sober Songs. Above all, Merrill has the privilege of studying with renowned vocal pedagogue Celeste Simone, whose influence continues to inform her approach to vocal technique and artistry every day.
As an educator, Merrill is deeply committed to developing healthy, versatile, and expressive singers. Merrill’s teaching philosophy emphasizes individualized instruction, combining evidence-based vocal pedagogy with a supportive, creativity-driven environment that empowers each student to discover their unique artistic sound. In addition to her education in voice, Merrill is also a concert-level saxophonist, bringing a broad and nuanced understanding of musicianship to her teaching. Whether working with aspiring professionals or passionate hobbyists, Merrill’s goal is to inspire lifelong confidence, curiosity, and joy in singing!

About Hannah (4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16)
As a teacher and coach, I work to guide students and clients towards excellence in their performances, to instill healthy, functional vocal technique that suits the needs of the material you are working on, to help grow students' awareness and understanding of their instrument as they progress, and can also provide you with understanding and insight students and aspiring professionals alike need in order to navigate the world of auditions, rehearsals, and performing.
When I teach, I aim to create a safe and encouraging environment, while asking the student to lean in to challenges so that they can truly grow and expand their abilities. Growth is a process - it requires trial and error, exploration, and willingness to try new things. I’m here to cheer you on, help you make breakthroughs, and incorporate a growing sense of self-confidence as we work together on your singing and storytelling skills.
If you are looking to grow as a singer and performer, it's my honor to be able to help you on your journey toward your dreams. I look forward to working with you!
