2020 Winter and Spring Schedule

MONDAY: Advanced Ballet 1 ~ (For 2nd and 3rd grade) ~ 15 weeks

Monday: 5:15-6:30

Class Description: This class is for 2nd and 3rd grade looking for a more focused class. Classes will include barre-work, extend our vocabulary and positions, and will continue building on more advanced  steps in the center. This class will focus on correct alignment, port de bras, turn-out, and footwork.. Dancers will still get to explore creative movement, and learn more about the great ballets and their choreography, however at a more advanced level. Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty. 

Dress Code: Pink tights, leotard and ballet slippers (skirts welcome) Or black dance pants and white t-shirt. Please put children’s hair in a Bun or Pony.

Class Description: This class is an extension for students who took Ballet 5 or who would like to take an intermediate class. This class builds further on a beginner ballet curriculum. Classes will include barre-work, basic vocabulary and positions, and simple combinations of steps in the center. This class will focus on correct alignment, port de bras, turn-out, and footwork, while in a warm and fun environment. Dancers will still get to explore creative movement, and learn more about the great ballets and their choreography. This class also focuses on students imaginations and builds on their ability to make their own dances. 

Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty. 

Dress Code: Pink tights, leotard and ballet slippers (skirts welcome) Or black dance pants and white t-shirt. Please put children’s hair in a Bun or Pony.

Class Description

Monday's Adult Ballet/Body Alignment and Strengthening  This is a ballet class that focuses on body alignment, core work, stretching and how to utilize your body in ballet

Tuesdays ballet/lyrical  is a beginner /Intermediate ballet class. Most importantly this class is built for students to learn or relearn ballet technique in a fun environment. Classes will include barre and centre work, but will incorporate more of a modern style in the technique. 

Dress Code: Clothing that you can move in. Ballet slippers are preferable, but not necessary.

Cost: $136 or $20 walk in

TUESDAY: Open Ballet – (For student 3,4 and 5 years old) ~ 17 weeks

Tuesday: 1:00-1:45

Class Description: This class is open to children who are turning 3, 4 and 5 years old.  This class starts with the basics of ballet, while also in a warm and fun environment fun for both boys and girls. Classes begin with stretching then move to the introduction of ballet positions and will learn dance combinations in centre. Free style dance is also incorporated. Children are encouraged to make up their own dances while given parameters. Education about classical ballet, and its choreography is also included in this class. Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty.

Classes will include barre-work, extend our vocabulary and positions, and will continue building on simple combinations of steps in the center. This class will focus on correct alignment, port de bras, turn-out, and footwork, while in a warm and fun environment. This call will focus more on explore creative movement, but will still have the chance to learn about the great ballets and their choreography. Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty.

Class Description:  This class uses musical instruments, and props. Each class starts with a warm up, "waking up" their bodies, and moves onto creative movement. Much of this class uses the imagination as we use movement to create different adventures each class.  This class does not participate in the end of the year recital. 

Dress Code: Girls: Clothing kids can move in. No shoes required.

 Class Description: Boys creative dance introduces young male students to the fundamentals of movement in a nurturing, all-boys classroom setting. This is a beginner class. Dancers will develop musicality, coordination, flexibility and physical fitness in a fun environment. Dancers will have the chance to learn about choreographers as well as create their own choreography. Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty. 

Dress Code: Boys should wear comfortable clothing to move in and ballet slippers.

Class Description:

Broadway Dance is a class for anyone who loves musical theatre and wants to tell a story with their body! The choreography will range from traditional to contemporary adaptations of the movement you see on broadway. Musical theatre dancing includes all styles of dance and feels like a combination of ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop. Combinations will be to songs from some of your favorite shows including Hamilton, Frozen, Wicked, Annie, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Matilda, Mary Poppins, and more!

Children will be encouraged to get creative by making up their own dances. Stories about classical ballet are included in this class. Each week dancers will also work towards a dance that they will perform in a recital in June which will be Sleeping Beauty.

Saturday: Beginner K and 1st Hip Hop -

Saturday 2/8 : 3:00-4:00


Teacher: Brianna

Class Description: n this class kids will learn about music connection, (how the music translates to them through movement). This will be demonstrated in the warm up with games like freeze dance, clapping on the beat of the music and so on. Dancers will also learn choreography, (a sequence of movement joined together to create a routine). The choreography will be based around urban hip-hop, which is the new styles of hip-hop, and foundation hip-hop which consist of break dance, and movement like the robot.  All the while having fun and bringing the child like energy into dance to make everyone in the room feel good! 

Dress Code: Comfortable clothing to move in. No Jeans, tights, No shoes with black soles

February Break Camp

Each day campers will get to explore the different themes through performance art and crafts in a cozy environment. Each day campers will start off at The Observatory for crafts to knit a special something for the theme of the day. After snack, campers will move to Amana Kupillas Dance to warm up with yoga and movement games! Campers will get to become the creators as they help choreograph a dance to the theme of the day. In doing this, children will get to use ipads and learn how dancers notate their ideas. Each day we will end with lunch at Slices!  Come and join in on all the fun!

*Campers must enrolled in 1stand 4thgrade. Please be sure to pack a snack, but please make sure it is nut free! 

Camp starts 8:30 at The Observatory and will end at 12:30 at Slices.

 Day 1: February 20th-  Harry Potter Day: We will knit a beginner Gryffindor scarf, and create a wand dance to music inspired the Broadway Show. 

 Day 2: February 21st1 Frozen Day: We will knit a beginner ice cold scarf to keep campers warm as they choreograph movements and sing to Frozen 2’s :”Somethings Never Change” 

Each day is $80. * Note there is a service fee for enrolling online. All campers must submit an application before the start of camp.
