Welcome to Amanda Kupillas Dance. Amanda Kupillas Dance was created in 2012, and has been growing ever since! Amanda Kupillas Dance is a place for young student explore their inner dancer. We not only explore movement, but we also talk about the history of dance, and how music and art can also inspire dance.
About Amanda Kupillas:
Amanda Kupillas studied at, Scarsdale Ballet, the Alvin Ailey school, and the University of the Arts, earning her BFA in ballet. Amanda is the recipient of the AlekSej Judenic Ballet award. She has danced in Fernando Bujones's Jazz Swing, was the soloist in Eva Szabo's staging od Napoli, and the featured soloist in Les Sylphides, staged by Scott Jovovich. She has worked with Andrew Pap as a soloist in his staging of Paquita, and the soloist of his original work Temps Leve. At the University of the Arts, Amanda was also featured in a number of student choreography shows. Amanda was a member of the Seros Ballet Company, and has been featured in works choreographed by Suzana Stankovic, and Diana White, former principal dancer of the New York City ballet. Amanda Kupillas has studied dance education and therapy and incorporates this into her classes. She has been teaching in her school for 6 years as well at local preschools and Hillside school with RiverArts. Amanda looks forward to grow the dance community, and inspire the dancers in all of us.
XiaoChuan Xie, a.k.a. Chuan, is a Chinese-born dancer/psychotherapist who currently pursues a M.S. in Dance/Movement Therapy at Sarah Lawrence College. She holds a B.A. from SUNY Empire State College and is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst. As a performer, Chuan is a Clive Barnes Award and Fred Astaire Award nominee for her excellent performances in Martha Graham Dance Company and The King and I on Broadway. Dance Magazine named her one the “Best Performers of 2015”. As a teacher, she has taught in many professional dance schools and educational venues in NYC, such as Martha Graham School and The Taylor School, to list a few.
Shane has a passion for educating children and seeing them reach their full potential through the arts. Born in Edmonton, Canada, Shane comes for a large theater family and started hamming it up at the age of 2 reciting his older brothers Shakespeare monologues. Shane learned to dance from his two older sister sad spent time at Canada’s National Ballet School. Shane’s professional career started at the age of 15 in a production of Man of la Mancha in Toronto along side some of Canada’s top musical theatre talent. At 18 Shane joined Harold Prince's Show Boat along side Cloris Leachman and Ned Beatty. Other credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams (Original Broadway Cast, 1st National Tour); Disney's The Lion King; Oliver!; Aladdin; The Producers; Beauty and the Beast; Ain’t Misbehavin’; Pippin and Annie to name a few. Television: Live! With Regis and Kelly; Good Morning America; and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Shane also served as assistant director for several Off-Broadway shows.
Shane spent 9 years and manager/lead teacher at Gymboree Play & Music in Scarsdale and now leads the music and movement program at Eliza Corwin Frost Preschool and is on staff at Young At Arts in Bronxville. Shane is also co-owner of 4 Mathnasium Learning Centers in Westchester.
From Mandeville, Louisiana, Tobin Eason began his ballet training at the Apetrei Dance Center. He later continued his ballet studies at the Giacobbe Academy of Dance in New Orleans, LA, with Joseph Giacobbe and Richard Rholdon. While in New Orleans, Tobin performed with the New Orleans Youth Ballet and Delta Festival Ballet Company. He continued his professional training through the School of American Ballet where he received a full scholarship in 2000. While at SAB, Tobin was awarded the Nureyev Foundation Scholarship Award.
In the summer of 2001, he attended ABT’s Summer Intensive on full scholarship. Eason joined American Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2002 and became a member of the company’s corps de ballet in April 2003. He has danced roles with the company in ballets such as La Fille mal gardée, in both Kevin Mckenzie’s and Alexei Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker, Petrouchka, Swan Lake, Gisele, Raymonda, Don Quixote, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Alexei Ratmansky’s The Firebird, Kenneth Macmillan’s Romeo and Juliet and Manon, John Cranko’s Eugene Onegin, George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, John Neumeier’s Lady of the Camellias, Etudes, Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo and Fall River Legend, Anthony Tudor’s Pillar of Fire and The Leaves are Fading, Twyla Tharp’s Baker’s Dozen and Brahm’s Hayden Variations, Paul Taylor’s Black Tuesday and Company B, to name a few.
After leaving ABT, Tobin joined the Metropolitan Opera Ballet at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, performing in various operas including Aida, Turandot, Wether, Mefistofele, Die Zauberflote, Arabella, Rusalka, Tannhauser, Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, Macbeth, La Fille du Regiment, Tales of Hoffman, and Lucia di Lammermoor.
In addition to performing, Mr. Eason also choreographs and is an Oil Painter.
Eason choreographed for American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company for its New York season and received favorable reviews by newspapers such as the New York Times. In 2012 and 2018, he choreographed works for former ABT principal dancer Michele Wiles’ company, Ballet Next, for their Brooklyn Academy of Music performances. Tobin also designed and painted the set for his piece at BAM and his sets were also featured at New York Live Arts Center in Manhattan. His paintings were featured in the gallery “The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York” in May 2015 and 2018 , and at “Arts and Crafts Beer Parlor” in August 2015.
Mr. Eason is currently a faculty member of Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and Central Park Dance in Scarsdale, New York. This season at The Metropolitan Opera, Tobin will be performing in The Magic Flute, Turandot, Werther, Queen of Spades, and Macbeth.
Brianna Luciano is a 22 year old well rounded dancer and choreographer. For 15 years Brianna has been dancing and pursuing her dreams and passion as a professional dancer, excelling in all she sets her mind too. At the age of 17, she was signed with a professional talent agency, also known as "Bloc" in New York City. Brianna’s passion and dedication for dance has provided her many opportunities and experiences. Such as touring Asia for seven months as a dancer, choreographer, and a creative director. Brianna has also worked with many amazing artists such as Britney Spears, India Apache, Jim Beans, Tanisha Scott and more. At the age of 19 she moved to Westchester County. Teaching all over Westchester with all ages made her realized what her highest fulfillment is... and that is teaching, and sharing her art with all of you.
Maxine Sherman was a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and the Martha Graham Dance Company. During her 20+ career she interpreted, created and performed in nearly every leading role in the repertory of these classic contemporary dance companies.
Maxine was personally coached by Alvin and Martha, (2 of the great choreographers of the 20th century) as a representative of their final living artistry. In addition Maxine danced with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Rudolph Nureyev in Appalachian Spring, Dance in America Series, PBS documentaries, and has performed in multiple opera houses throughout the world.
She has also been on faculty at universities, festivals and dance studios throughout the US restaging Ailey and Graham works and sharing her knowledge of technique, performance craft, body conditioning and dance making. Maxine has an MFA in Performance Studies from Sarah Lawrence College, where she has been an artist-in-residence and guest faculty professor.
Maxine received a choreography award from ARTS/Westchester in 2013 and her most recent collaboration with RiverArts® as performer and choreographer in “Braiding” was honored with an NEA grant. Maxine is a dance ambassador, bringing dance companies to Westchester, NY, where she is the Artistic Director of Dance and Artistic Advisor at RiverArts®.
Maxine Sherman began studying Pilates with Robert Fitzgerald, a direct disciple of Joseph Pilates in NYC in 1979 and is a graduate of the Kane School (2002) working with Kelly Kane, Kuan Hui Chew, Liz Koch, Continuum Practitioners and others in workshops addressing psoas dysfunction, scoliosis, foot alignment and other special populations.
Maxine has a BA from NYU in Body Therapies where she studied Kinetic Awareness, a bodymind method developed by Elaine Summers, after the innovative physical education teacher, Elsa Gindler. This ballwork system has inspired her to explore rubber balls, foam rollers, the MELT METHOD and other “self-care” techniques that restore healthy circulation, tight connective tissue and improve poor movement bio-mechanics.
In addition, Maxine is a certified GYROTONIC® TOWER/ PULLEY and GYROKINESIS instructor, studying with founder Juliu Horvath, Hilary Cartwright, Leda Franklin, Debra Rose and others. Her continuing education has led her to “wrapping,” GYROTONIC® Ladder and GYROTONER. There are so many benefits to this unique and original method, which coordinates movement, breath and mental focus.
As well as her extensive dance knowledge, Maxine practices YOGA daily for meditative and physical integration and rides her spin bike to increase heart rate, and improve circulation and stamina.
